ITR 2018-19 – Last Date for Income Tax Return 2018-19 Extended to 31st August 2019
Last date filing Income Tax Return for the financial year 2018-19 (AY 2019-20) has been extended to 31st August 2019 from 31st July 2019
Govt has extended the last date for filing Income Tax Return 2018-19 (AY 2019-20) by the Tax Payers whose accounts need not be subjected to Audit from 31st July 2019 to 31st August 2019. This decision for date extension has been taken by Income Tax Department as Income Tax Payers in Salaried Class Category are facing difficulty in filing ITR due to extension of last date for providing Form-16 by the Employers.
It pertinent to note that Govt has amended Income Tax provisions last year in order to levy heavy penalty in the case of non filing of Income Tax Return before due date. If the return is furnished after the due date of filing but on or before December 31, it will attract a penalty of Rs 5,000, which doubles to Rs 10,000 if the return is filed between January 1 and March 31. If the total income of the person, however, does not exceed Rs 5 lakh, the penalty shall not exceed Rs 1,000.
