Railways Extends APAR Completion Deadline to January 31, 2025

The Ministry of Railways has announced an extension for the completion of Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APAR) for the financial year 2023-24. The new deadline, as per the Railway Board’s directive issued on January 3, 2025, is now January 31, 2025. This decision follows the earlier timeline of December 31, 2024, outlined in previous communications dated May 15 and August 1, 2024.

Why the Extension?

The decision to extend the timeline was driven by the considerable backlog of approximately 25,000 APARs pending across various field units at different stages. To address this, the Railway Board emphasized ensuring the maximum possible finalization of pending APARs.

Key Highlights of the Notification:

1. Deadline Extension:
   • Pending APARs at the reviewing and accepting stages are granted an extension until January 31, 2025.
   • No extension will be provided for APARs stuck at the self-appraisal or reporting stages.
2. Action by Field Units:
   • All field units are instructed to expedite the completion process to adhere to the new timeline.
   • The Railway Board has clarified that no further extensions will be entertained.
3. Steps for Pending APARs:
   • APARs at the self-appraisal and reporting levels will be force-forwarded to the reviewing stage.
   • The HRMS portal will be closed for further submissions at the self-appraisal and reporting levels.

This proactive move aims to streamline the appraisal process while ensuring that field units take necessary measures to meet the revised deadline. The communication underscores the importance of adhering to these timelines for operational efficiency and timely completion of performance reviews.
