Premium Train Travel Allowed Under LTC for Government Employees
The Government of India has introduced a significant update to the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) rules, expanding the travel options for government employees. Aimed at enhancing convenience and modernizing travel facilities, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an Office Memorandum (OM) dated January 14, 2025, allowing travel by premium trains like Tejas Express, Vande Bharat Express, and Humsafar Express under the LTC scheme.
Key Highlights of the Policy
1. Scope of Premium Trains
Government employees are now permitted to travel on the following trains under LTC:
- Tejas Express
- Vande Bharat Express
- Humsafar Express
This addition complements the already permissible travel by Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto trains.
2. Travel Entitlements Based on Pay Levels
The policy specifies travel class entitlements under LTC according to the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) Pay Matrix:
- Level 12 and above: Executive Class (Shatabdi) or AC First Class (Rajdhani type trains).
- Level 6 to 11: Chair Car (Shatabdi) or AC Second Class (Rajdhani type trains).
- Level 5 and below: Chair Car (Shatabdi) or AC Third Class (Rajdhani type trains).
3. Other Terms Remain Unchanged
All terms and conditions outlined in the OM No. 31011/8/2017-Estt.A-IV dated 19.09.2017 will continue to apply.
