As per recent media reports on 7th Pay Commission HRA and other allowances revision, after Allowances Committee under the chairmanship of Shri.Ashok Lavasa submitted its report to Govt, Empowered Committee Secretaries took over the task of finalising the Govt’s Decision before it gets a nod by Union Cabinet. Â Though Govt did not announce officially, press reports including Press Trust of India (PTI) have reported that Empowered Committee of Secretaries have completed the final vetting of 7th Pay Commission Allowances Committee report and that Union Cabinet would take a final decision of the same soon.
Out of many allowances which 7th Pay Commission examined, HRA for Central Government Employees gains much significance as it is one of the common allowances applicable to almost all the employees except for whom Govt has provided accommodation.

In fact it is one of the Allowances which should have been revised from the date of implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations viz., 25th July 2016, as done by previous Pay Commissions.
NJCA, the Joint body of many Central Government Employees and Railway Unions / Federations have already demanded that revised HRA should be implemented with effect from the date of revision of 7th Pay Commission Pay i.e from 1st January 2016.

However, It is widely expected that Allowances Committee would retain the HRA Rates of 30%, 20% and 10% for X, Y, and Z Class Cites respectively.
