It’s marginal and it’s not exactly what the salaried class wanted keeping in mind the raise in their annual income thanks to 6CPC implementation.

These are certain key features of budget 2009-10 relating to Personal Income Tax

The Union Govt has marginally increased personal income tax exemption limit by Rs 15,000 from Rs 2.25 lakh to Rs 2.40 lakh for senior citizens.

Similarly it has aslo raised the exemption limit by Rs 10,000 from Rs 1.80 lakh to Rs 1.90 lakh for women tax payers and by Rs 10,000 from Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 1.60 lakh for all other categories of individual taxpayers.

Further, it has also increased the deduction under section 80-DD in respect of maintenance, including medical treatment, of a dependent who is a person with severe disability to Rs 1 lakh from the present limit of Rs 75,000.

The budget has phased out the surcharge on various direct taxes by eliminating the surcharge of 10 per cent on personal income tax.

There is no change in corporate taxation.

The budget has aslo abolished the Fringe Benefit Tax that was introduced in the Finance Act, 2005 on the value of certain fringe benefits provided by employers to their employees.

Income Tax exemption limit raising from Rs.1,50000/- to 1,60,000/- in respect of other category of tax payers is too less as was needed in today’s time. The tax payers will not going to get any benefit as the exemption limit enhanced and it will be like ek haath se dou and doosre haath se wapis lei lou. Ofcourse, whatever the Govt. has given in 6th CPC to Govt.employees, intends to get it back not allowing enhancing much in tax exemption limit as was required. Thus the given exemption limit of Rs.10,000/- will later automatically be vanished and shall become null and void when the 02 D.A’s will be announced and individual will get one increment in a year. Petrol prices raise to Rs.4/- per litre just prior to budget further going to be burden on meeting day to day necessity of the working class in the Govt. In my opinion, enhance in the exemption limit of Rs.10,000/- as said in above is of no use.

However, Thanks for defeating the expectations of all Govt. Employees.

I had an inkling after the sudden increase of petrol prices. The amount accumalated will be suffice to pay off the 60% balance 6CPC arrears due. It is simple first give then take and the process shall continue.

when WPI increases more than say 8% income tax relief is not increased correspondingly. even in the vth PC the recommendation is not to tax on DA which is result of inctrease in WPI. one way it is double taxation is it not? Da is given to compensate for increase of WPI but again we have to part it with IT. please comment my view which may be different

a uniform tax of 10% should be levyed from every one who is in some orther other kind of money making business. I think that would fetch much more money to the govt than milking a select few. Retailers, artizens, people working in unorganised sector, and small time businessmen in this country donot pay taxes.

Income tax exmption limit raising has no meaning. Atleast saving limit should be increased from one lakh to one third of total income of individual .Then people will save money and Govt.will get that money for developemnt

Income Tax exemptions differs from male to female employees. It is a fact that many of the female employees are having their husbands working except a few having compassionate appointments. In a country where equality in work and responsibility and promotion is fixed, how come there is a clear cut discremination among the male employees. There is no equality. I would have appreciated the Minister if he has reversed the situation by giving more monetary exemptions to male who many times is the only earning member. Giving encourragement to women employees the govt. may not be getting a better work, because, it is difficult to get the work done from female employees when compared to male employees. The law is in their favour to trouble the male supervisory officers and there by not working. I feel that govt. should rethink on this aspect and bring equality.

a very good suggestion. The finance minister must give enhanced ceiling limit to the married employed person whose wife is not working any whereelse but simply a house wife. That is true eqaulity as the male member is the only bread winner of the family

it is of M.C.P.s like prabhakara in the society that the women in India are suffering . In most of the govt. offices we can see males sauntering in well after the office has begun and then going out for having tea, smoking etc. and he claims that it is difficult to get the work done from female employees. Thank God that he just a Govt. employee and not in the Govt.

By doing so the Govt is making fat double income couples richer and deprive a needy unemployed males an oppurtunity to work and earn to support his family. The govt policies are only vote catching and not in the national ingterest.

Even compassionate ground appointed employees have their family pension from their deceased spouse’s account and their settlements. Govt. is still failing to understand the problems of single breadwinners, especialy male employees whose spouses are homekeepers. Will some politicians wake up do something meaningful to these disappointed male employees???

I fuly agree with Prabakara & Jagannathan. The Income Tax exemptions differs from male to female employees.I would have appreciated the Minister if he has consider the situation by giving more monetary exemptions to male who are the only earning member and incase of the families wherein both husband & wife are earning wife should get more monetary exemptions then male should not have objection. Otherwise it is really disappointed to male who are the only earning member. Government should not play a game for vote banks, Male & female could not be separated from family, both are suffering. I am dam sure that public is not fool they will teach a lesson.

I am really puzzled to note that none of the employees are asking for re introduction of standard deduction for salaried persons. It is a great injustice/discrimination done by the taxing statute. The income from salary can never be equated with ‘business income’ for the simple reason that the very source / nature of income is very different. Keeping in mind the principles of equity, the salaried persons were allowed standard deduction to have a level play with other persons having business income. The business income is taxed after allowing all types of expenditure in connection with the business, whereas the salary income is taxed completely (after reducing pt/exempt allowances spent in connection with duties). This calls for allowing certain percentage/amount as standard deduction which was rightly existed for somany decades. It was removed unceremoniously and nobody (including left) is making any issue out of it.
Any body reading (listening ? ). Atleast inform the fellow employees about this gross injustice and create awareness. Particularly, employees union should be sensitive about this !!!

Actually business people show all the expenditure relted to their family expenses hotel expenses entertainmet expenses in the business account by making false sstaement that they all related to their business and pay a very meagre amount as Tax.Whereas the salaried person has to meet all the expenses only from s justifiedno provision is made to meet towards unforeseen expenses in the family. Therefore standard deduction is justified

be careful. most of the Superintendents in Central Excise/Customs will have to pay tax at the rate of 20% slab due to 60% arrears of 6cpc. Make yourself comfortable by paying advance tax otherwise Nov 2009 to Feb 2010 will be hectic.
