“People who complain about taxes can be divided into two classes: men and women.” ~Author Unknown
Jokes apart, early estimation of income tax for this year is very important as we are in the new pay scale and have drawn arrears for previous years too. Needless to say, the end result is we have to pay more tax than the previous years.
But tax planning at an early date may reduce some of your tax burden. For example, you may want to go for a tax saving instrument and pay for it in easy installments rather than paying in lump sum at the end of the year. If nothing works, if you know your taxes now, you could ask your administration to deduct your tax liability on monthly basis from now onwards atleast.

For your ease and prudent tax management, GConnect has come up with a full fledged online Income tax software for the year 2008-09, which will be definitely useful for finding out your tax liability, tax treatment on your house property, HRA, 6CPC arrears etc.
Check here for GConnect Income tax calculation for the year 2008-09

5PC had recommended that additional DA given as a result of increase in WPI may not be taxed.at least now Govt. should follow this matter and give relief to their employees.also the minimum exemption for IT should be increased to 2 lakh and savings in Govt. like Post Office NSC should be completely detected from total salary without limitation.
Thanking you

Any thoughts on income tax exemption on transport allowance? The CBDT circular of Feb 1998 allows only maximum Rs 800/- pm (Max Rs. 9600/- per annum). What about the current Transport allowance which is now max 3200+ DA%? Are there any new circulars or clarifications in this regard?

dea sanjeev
as per swamy income tax handbook, Rs. 100 per month per child is to be not considered in the taxable income. rest amount can be deducted through limit of Rs. 1.00 lakh under section 80(C) of the income tax
