You are all aware, Mr.N.Masilamani of Bangalore provided us very handy scripts for including New Rupee symbol as a button in MS Word and Excel.

How to Add New Rupee Button in MS Word

MS Excel Add-in to include New Rupee symbol as button in Excel Worksheet.

These scripts work fine for Word and Excel 2003 and XP versions. In MS word 2007 and MS Excel 2007, those scripts You might need to do some extra tweaking to have the rupee symbol on the top of ribbon menu.

The following is a small customization which has to be done after you install the scripts that could be downloaded in the above links. (the download link is also available in the tutorial below)

We would provide here the tutorial on how to include New Rupee symbol in the quick tool bar on the top of ribbon menu in MS word 2007 which will be available in the Symbols tool bar inside Insert Menu in the top ribbon, once the RUPEE.vbs script is installed in your computer. The procedure is same for MS Excel 2007 also.

• Install the script provided for MS Word 2007 (Download from here)
• Open Word 2007
• Go to Ribbon on the top and press window round icon on the left top.

• In the window that opens choose Word option button found in the bottom.

• Select Customize Menu on the left.
• This would bring the procedure to Customize the quick access toolbar.
• In the left drop down menu (named as choose commands from) select Insert Tab and then select "Insert Symbol" in the box that appears in the bottom of the drop down menu.
• Once insert tab is selected click Add button on the right.
• This action will add symbols on the box available in the right side. Then click OK button to close the word options window.

• Now Quick toolbar is ready with symbols at the top of ribbon menu. Click the symbols icon now from the quick toolbar, which will open a new window that consists of symbols of all font types installed in the system.

• In the left top of the said window select the Rupee Foradian Font type. Once this font type is selected you can have the New Rupee symbol among others in the container that shows all the symbols. Select the Rupee symbol to insert the same in the document.
• Once, this customization is completed, you can have the rupee symbol once you click the symbol icon in the quick toolbar.

As desired by many of the readers of GConnect, Shri.Mr.N.Masilamani has developed this excel addin along with a script to include New Rupee Symbol in your MS-Excel worksheet as a button on standard toolbar.

The procedure to install the New Rupee Font is just the same as we you did earlier for MS-Word.

Those who are yet to install the script for adding Rupee symbol button to your MS-Word application go through this previous GConnect article "Script to add New Rupee button in your computer".

How to add New Rupee symbol button to your Excel Worksheet:

• Open MS Excel and set macro security to low using Tools menu item as shown below. (Tools -> Macro->Security , then in the dialog box, check low then click on 'OK' button).

• Close MS Excel
• Download the new-rupee-excel-addin.zip from this link.
  
• Unzip/extract all files in to a folder at any location in your computer.
• Six files viz., RUPADINNEW.xla, Rupee_Foradian.ttf, RUPEXL.vbs, startru.xls, addrupee.xls and one instruction.doc will be available in the downloaded zip folder.
• Right click on RUPEXL.vbs and click on open menu to run the script in order to install.
• Show the standard tool bar in your word program if not already done.

• Once RUPEEXL.vbs is installed you could see that startru.xls worksheet will open and you can find New Rupee symbol button in the standard toolbar.

• If the current cell is empty it will insert in the first position or if the cell is having some character the symbol will be added at the end.
• While cell is edit mode this utility can not work

Note : The utility was tested in MS Office version 2000 ,2002, 2003, and Office XP. We found that this small tool is also compatible with Office 2007. If you have Office 2007, once the RUPEXL.vbs is installed go to insert menu and then to Symbol, where you can choose the new rupee symbol.

The Cabinet on 26th Aug-2010, approved Direct Taxes Code (DTC) Bill, clearing decks for tabling the legislation in the Monsoon Session of Parliament so that the new Act ushering in reduced tax rates and exemptions may come into effect from next fiscal.

The new DTC bill proposes to raise exemption limit for personal income tax from  `  1.6 lakh to  `  2 lakh. The bill also proposes income tax for ` 2- ` 5 lakh slab to be 10 per cent, and 20 per cent on income up to ` 5 – ` 10 lakh, and 30 per cent on income beyond that.

The code aims at reducing tax rates, but expanding the tax base by minimising exemptions. When enacted, DTC will replace the archaic Income Tax Act and simplify the whole direct tax regime in the country.

The Finance Ministry had earlier come out with a draft on the DTC bill, some of whose provisions drew strong criticism from industry as well as the public.

To address those issues, the ministry brought out the revised draft, dropping earlier proposals of taxing provident funds on withdrawal and levying Minimum Alternate Tax on corporates based on their assets.

As of now, it is proposed to provide the EEE (Exempt- Exempt-Exempt) method of taxation for Government Provident Fund (GPF), Public Provident Fund (PPF) and Recognised Provident Funds (RPF).

The revised draft also puts pensions administered by the interim regulator PFRDA, including pension of government employees who were recruited since January 2004, under EEE treatment.

Under the EEE mode, the tax exemption is enjoyed at all the three stages–investment, accumulation and withdrawal.

The revised proposal has also made it clear that tax incentives on housing loans will continue. Payment on interest on housing loans up to ` 1.5 lakh will continue.

Once this bill cleared by Parliament Direct Tax Code will be a full-fledged Direct Tax law in India which will take effect from financial year 2011-12 (Assessment Year 2012-13)

Tax Structure proposed in the DTC Bill is as follows

• Salaried persons exempt up to  `  2 lakh
• Senior citizen upto  `  2.5 lakh exempt  
• Tax for those earning  `  2 – 5 lakh at 10 per cent
• Tax for those earning  `  5-10 lakhs at 20 per cent
• Tax for those earning Over  ` 10 lakhs at 30 per cent.

It’s a good work of Mr.N.Masilamani, who works for a Central Government Department at Bangalore.  He has written a script for automatic installation of Rupee font for making your MS Office (MS word, MS Excel etc) New Rupee font aware at ease.

After announcement of new Rupee symbol many enthusiasts created fonts for new rupee symbol.  In one of the previous articles of GConnect we also introduced a new rupee font for use text processing.

You will find that the script developed now by Shri.N.Masilamani for installing new rupee font in your computer is more effective one after you go through the following advantages.

• You need not search for the place in the windows operating system to save the font file.  You have to just double click the RUPEE.vbs file which is the script file provided by him to automatically install the font in the required destination.
• In the previous method of merely adding a true type font for rupee (.ttf file), you have to change the font type in the Word program every time to type new rupee symbol and then revert to the font type which you use for typing out other contents of the document.  But the script developed by  Shri. N.Masilamani would take care of automatic change of font type when the button for new rupee symbol that is conspicuously available in the standard tool bar on the top.  The reversal to the font type of your choice for other contents of the documents is also automatic.  In other words, you need not change the font type.  Just click the button for new rupee symbol.
• For those who always love to use keyboard shot cut need not be discouraged as Control key+The Grave acent symbol (`) – the key just above “tab” button in your keyboard has been mapped for Rupee symbol.

• Download  the new-rupee-symbol-font.zip from this link.
  
• Unzip/extract all files in to a folder at any location in your computer.
• Three files viz., Rupee.dot, rupee.vbs and Rupee_Foradian.ttf will be available in the downloaded zip folder.
• Right click on rupee.vbs and  click on open menu to run the script in order to install.
• Show the standard tool bar in your word program if not already done.

• Now you can see a button for rupee symbol on standard toolbar.

• Click on the button to insert  rupee symbol in the cursor location.

Note : The  utility was tested in MS word version 2000 ,2002, 2003, Office XP and Office 2007.  We found that this small tool is also compatible with Office 2007.  If you have Office 2007, once the RUPEE.vbs is installed go to insert menu and then to Symbol, where you can choose the new rupee symbol.

Update (23-08-2010): Feedback from many of the readers revealed that rupee symbol font type if any installed earlier/prior to the installation of this script has to be removed for proper functioning of this script.

The Government has considered the matter of appointment of candidates belonging to Halba Koshti/Halbi Koshti/Koshti caste against vacancies reserved for the S.Ts especially in the light of judgement of the Supreme Court in the case of State of Maharashtra Vs. Milind and Others.

The DOP & T, has, in consultation with the Department of Legal affairs decided that the persons belonging to the 'Halba Koshti/Koshti' caste who got appointment against vacancies reserved for the STs on the basis of ST issued to them by the competent authority under the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 (as amended from time to time)relating to the State of Maharashtra and whose appointments had become final on or before 28.11.2000 shall not be affected.

However, they shall not get any benefit of reservation after 28.11.2000.

The Govt. has considered the position regarding treatment of SC/ST Officers promoted on their own merits and not owing to reservation or  relaxation of eligibility standards in the light of recent judgement of Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case of UOI Vs Kalugasalamoorthy (WP No.15926/2007). 

The Government has decided that SC/ST Officers promoted on their own merits and not owing to reservation or  relaxation of qualifications shall be adjusted against unreserved points of reservation roaster.  It is decided that this order takes effect from 2.7.97 the date on which post based roster was introduced.
